SOUTH CAROLINA APRIL - JUNE 2005 MILK PRODUCTION UP


Columbia, S.C., July 26, 2005:   There were an estimated 80 million pounds of milkproduced in SOUTH CAROLINA during the April-June quarter of 2005, according to the USDA-NASS, South Carolina Field Office. This is up 5 percent from the April-June 2004 quarter, but down 1 percent from last quarter.


There were 18,000 milk cows on SOUTH CAROLINA farms during April-June 2005, up 1,000 cows from last year, but unchanged from the previous quarter of 2005.




U.S. APRIL-JUNE MILK PRODUCTION UP


Milk production in the UNITED STATES during the April-June quarter totaled 45.6 billion pounds, up 4.1 percent from the April-June quarter last year. The average number of milk cows in the U.S. during the quarter was 9.04 million head, 34,000 head more than the same period last year.
