Return to the List of 1997 Crop Weather Reports

Released: June 16, 1997 -- 3:00 p.m. For Week Ending June 15, 1997 Volume 46 Issue 15

GENERAL
Warm temperatures and adequate topsoil moisture allowed the late planted small grains to make good gains in crop development, according to the USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. With 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork, farmers were able to nearly complete the planting of late season crops. Significant gains in the development of the winter wheat crop occurred, with over half the acreage now headed. Cattle and calves are benefiting from the improved conditions of summer pastures. This report is based on information from county agents and other reporters around the state.
