GENERAL
Wet and humid conditions hampered the small grain harvest, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. Major activities by South Dakota farmers and ranchers during the week were harvesting of small grains, haying, and fencing. Statewide there were 4.6 days suitable for field work. This report is based on information from county agents and other reporters around the state.

CROPS
Winter wheat harvest is lagging behind normal at 85 percent, compared to the five-year average of 92. Winter rye remained ahead of the five-year average of 87 percent, with 92 percent harvested. Barley, oats, and spring wheat harvest progressed but were still 10, 3, and 5 percentage points behind their five-year averages. Corn silked, at 89 percent, remained slightly ahead of the normal of 85. The percent in dough stage advanced to 26 percent, compared to the five-year average of 27. The 3 percent dented fell behind the five-year average of 6. Soybeans blooming increased to 97 percent and those setting pods increased to 80, both ahead of normal.

LIVESTOCK AND FORAGE
Second cutting of alfalfa was 78 percent complete and other hay rated 90 percent complete, compared to their five-year averages of 76 and 74. Livestock conditions rated in mostly good to excellent condition, as pastures received much needed moisture. Stock water supplies were 3 percent short, 86 adequate, and 11 surplus.

WEATHER
Average temperatures for the week were generally 4 to 13 degrees below normal. The highest temperature was 90 degrees at Yankton. The lowest overnight temperature was 35 degrees at Deerfield. Rapid City received the most rain with 2.08 inches.
