Return to the List of 1998 Crop Weather Reports

Released: April 13, 1998 -- 3:00 p.m. For Week Ending April 12, 1998 Volume 47 Issue 5

GENERAL
Fieldwork was limited last week due to rainfall across most of the state, according to the USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. The statewide average starting date for fieldwork is expected to be April 15 this year. Major activities consisted of small grain seeding, spreading fertilizer, spring tillage, fixing fence, calving, lambing and moving cattle. Producers are anxiously awaiting warmer, dryer weather conditions that would allow spring fieldwork to continue. Statewide, there was one day suitable for fieldwork.

This report is based on information from county agents and other reporters around the state.
