GENERAL
Cold weather slowed planting progress and crop development last week, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. Many areas across the state received much needed rainfall, but some areas still remain dry. Major activities by producers during the week were spraying, cultivating, cutting alfalfa, and working cattle. Statewide, there were 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork.

Based on information from county agents, farm service agency county directors, and other reporters.

SOIL MOISTURE
The northwest corner of the state is still reporting short moisture conditions, despite late week rains. A portion of this area is reporting very short subsoil and topsoil conditions. Most of the state is reporting adequate moisture, with the northeast area of the state still reporting surplus moisture conditions.
