Released: June 29, 1998 -- 3:00 p. For Week Ending June 28, 1998 Volume 47 Issue 16

GENERAL
Warm weather spurred small grain and row crop development over the past week, keeping it well ahead of the five-year averages, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. Producers were busy cultivating and spraying, as weed control is a priority in many areas. There were 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork last week.

Based on information from county agents, farm service agency county directors, and other reporters.

SOIL MOISTURE
The northwest corner benefited from rains this week, with the majority of the state now reporting adequate topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions. The northeast and extreme southeast corner of the state are still reporting surplus topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions.
