GENERAL
Development of row crops made good progress during the week, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. Warm, humid weather kept corn and soybean development well ahead of the five-year average.

SOIL MOISTURE
Soil conditions across the state have deteriorated as pockets of short topsoil and subsoil moisture are being reported in the extreme northeast and southwest corners. The northwest continues to report soil moisture as short, while the rest of the state is reporting adequate conditions.

CROPS
Warm, sunny weather helped the maturity of row crops during the week. Corn dented jumped to 74 percent, ahead of the five-year average of 47 percent. Corn mature is 21 percent, an increase of 9 points from last week. There were two reports showing corn harvest has started in isolated areas of the state. Soybeans dropping leaves, at 25 percent, is ahead of the five-year average of 21 percent. Sunflower progress increased with 67 percent of the bracts yellow and 15 percent mature, up 24 and 4 points, respectively, from last week. There were several reports of sunflower being harvested around the state. Sorghum is 68 percent turning color and 16 percent mature, compared to the five-year averages of 47 and 12 percent, respectively. Sorghum and corn silage harvest is well underway with 14 and 19 percent cut. Producers have made excellent advancement in seeding winter wheat, with 17 percent completed.

LIVESTOCK AND FORAGE
Livestock conditions are 93 percent good to excellent, with 7 percent poor to fair. Range and pasture remain in need of rain but are rated 73 percent in good to excellent condition and 27 percent very poor to fair. Stock water supplies are 1 percent very short, 7 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Producers are 63 percent complete with third cutting alfalfa.

WEATHER
Temperatures averaged 3 to 10 degrees above normal across the state last week. The highest temperature was 103 degrees at Chamberlain and the lowest was 42 degrees at Brookings. Little to no precipitation was received in all locations across the state, with Sioux Falls receiving the most precipitation at 0.02 inch.
