GENERAL
Heavy rains halted row crop harvest across the state early in the week, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. Despite wet fields, producers resumed harvesting activities by week's end. Statewide, there were 3.1 days suitable for fieldwork.

SOIL MOISTURE
Soil conditions improved across the state, as heavy rains fell at the begin ning of the week. The state is reporting adequate topsoil and subsoil conditions, with the exception of the extreme northwest area of the state, which is reporting short subsoil conditions.

CROPS
Heavy rains across the region halted row crop harvest early in the week, but harvest remains ahead the five-year averages. Producers were able to resume harvest activities late in the week, despite wet fields. Corn harvested is 31 percent, ahead the five-year average of 13 percent. Soybean harvest slowed to 55 percent completed, behind last year's 68 percent, but remained ahead of the five-year average. Sunflower harvested is 51 percent complete, compared to 37 percent one year ago and 26 percent on average. There were several reports of heavy wind damage to sunflower crops. Silage harvest is all but completed, with corn silage harvested at 98 percent and sorghum silage harvested at 91 percent. Both are well ahead of the five-year averages of 87 and 76 percent. Winter wheat seeding and emergence benefited from the wet weather conditions, with seeding 93 percent completed, 5 points behind last year, and slightly behind the five-year average. Winter wheat emerged is 78 percent, compared to the five-year average of 79 percent.

LIVESTOCK AND FORAGE
Rains across the state improved the pastures to 70 percent good to excellent, compared to 58 percent last week. Producers continue to move livestock to stubble fields and wean calves. Producers are also moving hay to winter storage areas, as the third cutting of hay is completed. Stock water supplies rated 6 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus.

WEATHER
Temperatures statewide averaged from 3 degrees below to 4 degrees above normal. The highest temperature was 85 degrees at Pierre, while the lowest temperature was 26 degrees at Custer. Aberdeen received the most precipitation, with 0.4 inch.
