Agricultural Prices
June 28, 2001

NORTH DAKOTA AGRICULTURAL PRICES

            
The Index of Prices Received for All Farm Products in June stood at 87 percent of the 1990-1992 base, according to the North Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. This is down 1 percent from last year and down 2 percent from two years ago. The All Crops Index, at 85 percent of the base, was down 2 percent from June 2000, while the All Livestock Index, at 96 percent, was unchanged from last year. June indexes are calculated using preliminary mid-month prices.

The May Index of Prices Received for All Farm Products, recalculated with full month prices, was 87 percent of the base, down 3 percent from May 2000. The All Crops Index, at 83 percent, was down 7 percent from the previous year and the All Livestock Index, at 98 percent, was up 4 percent.

Preliminary June prices, followed by the change from May, were:
     .     Spring Wheat, $3.00 per bushel, down 3 cents;
     .     Durum Wheat, $2.55 per bushel, up 1 cent;
     .     Winter Wheat, $2.30 per bushel, up 5 cents;
     .     Feed Barley, $1.35 per bushel, up 1 cent;
     .     Malting Barley, $1.80 per bushel, up 2 cents;
     .     Oats, $1.00 per bushel, up 4 cents;
     .     Flaxseed, $4.00 per bushel, up 9 cents;
     .     Oil Sunflower, $7.20 per hundredweight (cwt.), up 29 cents;
     .     Non-Oil Sunflower, $10.00 per cwt., down 80 cents;
     .     All Dry Edible Beans, $13.60 per cwt., up $1.30;
     .     All Potatoes, $5.75 per cwt., down 25 cents;
     .     Alfalfa Hay, $49.00 per ton, up $1.00;
     .     Other Hay, $34.00 per ton, up $2.00;
     .     Steers and Heifers, $83.00 per cwt., down $1.10;
     .     Cows, $45.00 per cwt., up 20 cents;
     .     Calves, $99.00 per cwt., up 10 cents.

May whole month prices, with no preliminary June, followed by the change from April were:
     .     Soybeans, $4.01 per bushel, up 14 cents;
     .     Corn, $1.58 per bushel, down 11 cents;
     .     Rye, $1.58 per bushel, down 2 cents;
     .     Navy Beans, $10.20 per cwt., up 22 cents;
     .     Pinto Beans, $12.30 per cwt., up $1.10;
     .     Fresh Market Potatoes, $5.50 per cwt., unchanged;
     .     Potatoes for Processing, $5.40 per cwt., up 10 cents:
    .     Hogs, $50.70 per cwt., up $2.20;
     .     Lambs, $84.50 per cwt., down $5.50;
     .     Sheep, $29.70 per cwt., down $8.30.

June prices are preliminary and based on sales data for only part of the month. They will be replaced with whole month prices in next month's report. May prices are based on sales data for the entire month.
