2013 Walnut Production Down Slightly from the 2012 Final Production

Issued September 27, 2013 by the Agricultural Statistics Board of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Statistics Service. For more information contact Lance Honig at (202) 720-2127 or lance_honig@nass.usda.gov.

The National Agricultural Statistics Service forecasts the 2013 California walnut production to be 495,000 tons, down slightly from the 2012 final production. The September 5, 2013 forecast is based on the August Walnut Objective Measurement Survey.  Because California produces virtually all of the walnuts grown in the United States, this forecasted total represents the expected United States production in 2013. NASS conducted the 2013 Walnut Objective Measurement Survey with funding from the California Walnut Board.
