About Us

The National Agricultural Statistics Service's (NASS) Maryland Field Office is the U.S. Department of Agriculture agency responsible for collecting, compiling, and publishing statistics on Maryland agriculture. The mission of NASS is to provide farmers, agribusinesses, universities, and other government agencies with timely, unbiased, reliable statistical information related to agriculture. The Maryland Field Office works cooperatively with the Maryland Department of Agriculture and the University of Maryland in meeting the data needs of the Maryland agricultural industry.

Agricultural statistics published and distributed by the Maryland Field Office are used by farmers and agribusinesses in making production and marketing decisions. These data are also used widely by farm organizations, colleges and universities, transportation companies, machinery and equipment dealers, banks and other lenders, policy makers at all levels of government, and foreign and domestic buyers of agricultural products.

As do all NASS Field Offices, the Maryland Field Office conducts a comprehensive survey program with the cooperation of farmers and farm organizations within the State. Information collected through these survey efforts is carefully analyzed and used in preparation of estimates for major crop and livestock commodities within the State. In addition, data are also collected on key economic indicators that provide inputs for estimating cash receipts and net farm income for the State. All data collected from farmers are kept completely confidential and are protected under Title 7 of the United States Code. Data, which are aggregated into State or Regional totals, are released on pre-determined dates and times throughout the year.

The Maryland Field Office is co-located with the Maryland Department of Agriculture at 50 Harry S. Truman Parkway, in Annapolis, Maryland . Office hours are 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
